Welcome to my new website, where we highlight the challenges and solutions to California’s public policy problems.

Note that I emphasize policy and not politics—there are enough blogs, posts, news “talk” shows, and newspaper columns on today’s political debates. This site (to the extent we can) ignores the political battles that dominate our public discourse.

That process has delivered a $27 billion state budget shortfall, underperforming schools, and nearly one in six Californians without health insurance. And there are few thoughtful and realistic solutions in sight.

Instead, this site will focus on what many political leaders actually did until about 15 or 20 years ago—and what they should do again today—use fact-based analysis to dissect tough problems, develop consensus, and implement solutions. That approach is largely gone from California and the country.

Things may get worse before they get better. But in the long run, voters still run this state, and we can re-direct our efforts and make California great again.

Please use it, tell me when you disagree, suggest solutions, and help us make California a better place.

[Blog] While news talk shows focus on grass roots or “astroturf” protests over health care reform, they–and our political leaders–have lost sight of whether the proposed policy will actually work………(Hint: It won’t)
